Exclusive – Sagar Parekh wants roles with layers, flaws and emotional depth, reveals ‘Emotional graph is everything’ for him
After consistently impressing audiences with layered and strong performances, Sagar Parekh continues to stand out for his detailed approach towards acting. The actor, who was last seen in the Zee TV show Jagriti, is currently taking his own sweet time before locking his next project. For Sagar, the wait is not about slowing down, but about choosing wisely.Speaking about what excites him most while preparing for a role, Sagar shares that psychology is the starting point for all the characters. “I think what excites me the most is diving into the psychology of the character. Basically, understanding why they think the way they do, what drives them, what scares them, what they desire,” he says.He further explains that once he understands the character internally, everything else begins to fall into place. “This is the process of how you get into the character and create small nuances. Once I crack that internal world, the physicality and emotional journey start flowing organically,” Sagar adds. For him, the small details matter deeply. “I also love discovering the small details of how a character stands or how they would breathe in a particular scene or in an emotion, how they react in silence. I think for me, the emotional graph is everything. That also defines you as an actor, how well you understand a character,” he says.Sagar believes in feeling emotions truthfully instead of just performing lines. “I enjoy pushing myself to feel things truthfully rather than just learning the lines and performing them. That transformation, for me, is completely different. This is what makes me an addict to this craft,” he shares. When it comes to choosing projects, depth remains his top priority. “It starts obviously, with the character’s depth. If the role challenges me, scares me a little and pushes me out of my comfort zone, I’m already interested,” he says. He looks for characters that evolve and have flaws, layers, and contradictions. At the same time, he values meaningful storytelling and collaboration. “The story’s impact is equally important. I want to be part of narratives that stay with the audience,” he says, adding, “Cinema is all about teamwork and the right team elevates everything.”Sagar Parekh is clearly not in a hurry to get back on screen. He is waiting for a role that really moves him and the audience as well.
