UDUPI: A motorcyclist was killed in a horrific road accident after his bike rammed into a private bus near Gulwadi village on the outskirts of Kundapur on Saturday morning. The deceased has been identified as Vijay.According to the complaint filed by bus driver Sampath K Shetty, a resident of Shivamogga district, he was driving a private bus from Bengaluru to Kundapur with passengers on board. The incident occurred around 8.12 am as the bus was travelling towards Kundapur via the Kollur route on the Neralakatte–Tallur road.
Police said that when the bus reached near the Indian Oil petrol pump at Shetrakatte in Gulwadi village, a motorcycle ridden by Vijay approached from the opposite direction at a curve. CCTV visuals of the incident, described as chilling, show the helmet-less biker attempting to overtake another bus at high speed on the blind curve.In the process, the motorcyclist allegedly veered towards the extreme right side of the road in a rash and negligent manner. Noticing the imminent danger, the bus driver swerved left and took the vehicle onto the mud shoulder in an attempt to avoid a collision. Despite this, the motorcycle crashed into the bus, throwing Vijay violently onto the road.Vijay sustained critical head injuries and was unable to speak after the impact. The bus driver and local residents rushed to help and shifted him to a hospital in Kundapur, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.Kundapur traffic police have registered a case under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway.
