“Love is the whole thing. We are only pieces”; why love is not about completing someone but connecting deeply
The most useful lesson may be simple: stop searching for someone who completes the story and start building a relationship where both people can contribute to it.
That means showing affection through consistency, giving space without creating distance, apologising without keeping score and allowing another person to remain themselves.
Love, in this sense, is not two incomplete people becoming one perfect person. It is two separate lives finding a meaningful way to meet.
And perhaps that is why the idea of being “pieces” matters. A piece does not lose its value because it is only one part of something larger. It becomes meaningful through connection.
