Dehradun: Granting relief to petitioners facing frozen bank accounts due to transactions linked to online gaming, Uttarakhand high court has permitted them to submit a fresh representation to their bank.A single-judge bench comprising Justice Alok Mahra passed the order on a petition filed by Bhavna Dangi and others against the state.During the proceedings, counsel for State Bank of India (SBI) submitted that the petitioners’ accounts were frozen following detection of transactions related to online gaming.However, the SBI counsel stated that if the petitioners submit a fresh representation seeking to unfreeze the accounts—with the condition that the lien be restricted solely to the disputed online gaming amount while the remainder is released—the representation will be considered in accordance with the law.The court took note of submissions highlighting that the second petitioner serves in the Army, while the primary petitioner is a homemaker entirely dependent on her savings account for daily living expenses.In view of these facts, high court granted the petitioners one week to submit their representation to the bank. The court directed that upon receipt of the representation, the bank must decide the matter within two weeks.The court has scheduled the next hearing for Oct 8, directing respondents to file a counter-affidavit in the interim.
