Delhi is gearing up to host the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam from September 12 to 13, with extensive security and traffic arrangements put in place across the national capital.Authorities have deployed around 500 CCTV cameras across the area, including cameras equipped with automatic number plate recognition technology, to strengthen surveillance during the summit. Security agencies have also put in place a multilayered system involving surveillance, traffic regulation and quick-response mechanisms to ensure the smooth movement of delegates and minimise inconvenience to the public.Delhi Police Commissioner chaired a security briefing ahead of the summit, where senior officers and venue-in-charge officials reviewed operational arrangements. The commissioner directed personnel to maintain discipline, politeness and courtesy while carrying out their duties, stressing that the summit carries national significance and that the conduct of the force would reflect on the department’s reputation and credibility.
15,000 cops, 200 paramilitary companies deployed
Around 15,000 Delhi Police personnel have been deployed for the summit, while 200 companies of paramilitary forces have been mobilised to ensure the safety of delegates and other guests. Police have also conducted mock drills and deployed personnel across different sectors and zones, with teams continuously monitoring CCTV networks.Special Commissioner of Police (Protective/Security Division) Manish Kumar Agrawal said exclusive arrangements had been made in coordination with multiple government and security agencies. “We have made elaborate bandobast in order to avoid the inconvenience to the public. Important traffic advisories have been conveyed. Police has already started doing the survey of routes and location,” he said.DCP New Delhi Sachin Sharma said police personnel had been deployed across different areas, sectors and zones, while mock drills had been conducted as part of preparations.

A security official said the CCTV network would cover roads across the area and allow police to respond quickly to any suspicious activity. “If we notice anything suspicious, we can take action within seconds and secure the entire area,” the official said.Agrawal said high-level delegations and heads of state are expected to attend the summit, with representatives from countries including China, Russia, the UK and Egypt likely to participate. Special security arrangements have been made for the visiting delegations and guests.
