Chhattisgarh CM orders statewide safety audit of hostels, schools and coaching centres

Raipur: Chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Thursday ordered immediate safety audits of hostels, paying guest accommodations, coaching centres, schools and other large educational buildings across Chhattisgarh, warning that officials would be held accountable for lapses in implementing the directions.Chairing a review meeting with divisional commissioners, collectors, inspectors general of police and superintendents of police through videoconferencing, Sai directed district administrations to identify potential hazards and take preventive action instead of waiting for complaints or accidents.“Administrative responsibility does not end with action after an incident. Potential risks must be identified and addressed beforehand,” the CM said.Officials have been asked to assess the structural condition of old and dilapidated buildings housing schools, libraries, hostels and other public facilities. Any building found unsafe or posing a danger to students and other occupants must be identified and acted upon immediately, he said. The CM directed district administrations to set clear deadlines for correcting deficiencies detected during inspections. Collectors and SPs have been asked to personally monitor compliance and periodically review the action taken.
