Lakhisarai to get Rs 100-cr frozen semen station | Patna News
Patna: The state is set to get a state-of-the-art frozen semen station in Lakhisarai district to improve livestock genetics and boost milk production. The site has been finalised at Gopalpur village under Chanan block, with construction expected to begin in Nov. The proposed facility will have an annual capacity to produce 50 lakh semen doses.Officials said the use of sex-sorted semen technology would promote the birth of female calves with high genetic merit and better milk-producing potential.Estimated to cost around Rs100 crore, excluding land, the project is being established under the Centre’s Rashtriya Gokul Mission. The cost will cover civil works, laboratories, cold-chain equipment, utilities, farm machinery, digital systems and initial procurement or import of bulls.The Bihar State Milk Co-operative Federation Limited (Comfed) will implement the project, while the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) will provide technical assistance. It is proposed to be funded through a combination of central grant-in-aid and state govt’s contribution.Union fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, aka Lalan Singh, inspected the proposed site on Saturday. He said said, “The completion of the project would enable dairy farmers in Bihar to gain wider access to modern animal breeding technologies. The use of sex-sorted semen would promote the birth of female calves with better milk-producing potential, thereby improving livestock productivity and strengthening the dairy sector in the state.”Dairy, fisheries and animal resources department secretary Shirshat Kapil Ashok said the station would strengthen the availability of quality semen for livestock farmers across Bihar and help improve productivity and milk yields.
