Nepal flood horror: Two men detained after horrifying video shows gold earrings stolen from victim

A disturbing video from flood-ravaged Nepal has triggered outrage after two men were allegedly seen removing gold earrings from the body of a woman who died in the disaster.The 41-second footage, which spread widely on social media, shows several people gathered near the body after it was washed ashore. Two men appear to drag the woman using wooden planks and, at one point, pull her by the hair. In a post on X, the police said the men involved had been identified and detained, and that an investigation was underway.According to the police, the body had been swept ashore by the Bhotekoshi River after a major landslide and flooding. The man seen taking the jewellery was identified as 25-year-old Madan Gurung, originally from Nawalparasi. Police said he was detained near Pokhara Bus Park in Bharatpur.The second man, 38-year-old Umesh Chaudhary, was also taken into custody after investigators identified him as the person who helped Gurung in the video.Nepal Police described the act as inhumane and said further investigation would determine the next steps under the law.The video has drawn fierce condemnation online, with many users calling for strict punishment. The outrage has been particularly strong because the incident took place while communities across Nepal were dealing with deaths, displacement and widespread destruction caused by the floods and landslides.The disaster has left roads and bridges destroyed in several areas, while rescue workers continue to search for people who remain missing.
