UP electricity bills to fall 7.93% in September, Rs 604 crore benefit | Lucknow News
LUCKNOW: Electricity consumers across Uttar Pradesh will receive another reduction in their power bills, with the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) announcing a 7.93% negative Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (FPPAS) for Sept.This marks the third consecutive month of relief and the second largest monthly benefit extended to consumers since the monthly FPPAS mechanism came into effect.The reduction will apply to consumers across all categories and is expected to provide a direct benefit of around Rs 604 crore.UPPCL’s Regulatory Affairs Unit issued the order on Thursday, stating that the FPPAS had been calculated on the basis of power purchase and transmission costs incurred in June 2026.Under the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission’s Multi-Year Tariff Regulations, 2025, FPPAS is applied in the third month after the costs are incurred. Therefore, the adjustment calculated for June will be reflected in consumers’ September bills.The calculation sheet showed that UPPCL procured 16,576.69 million units of electricity in June. The actual average power purchase cost was Rs 4.62 per unit, against the approved cost of Rs 4.94 per unit.The lower purchase cost resulted in a negative adjustment.The total benefit was calculated at Rs 603.79 crore against projected Sept billing of Rs 7,616.65 crore, resulting in the 7.93% reduction.Consumers had received a 4.43% FPPAS reduction in July and 2.92% in August.UP Rajya Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad welcomed the order.Its president, Avadhesh Kumar Verma, said the relief reflected lower power purchase costs and followed the council’s sustained demand for transparent and rule-based FPPAS calculations.
