KANPUR:A scramble broke out in Kanpur after a chocolate factory dumped expiry date chocolates at a roadside garbage site along a highway, prompting people to collect and carry away cartons of expired chocolates.The incident came to light when a video of the looting was recorded and shared on social media. The footage showed people running off with colourful cartons filled with chocolates, both large and small, past their expiry date.Residents said the chocolates expired in 2024 and that the factory that produced them threw them into a nearby dump beside the highway. The video later went viral online, and many viewers expressed shock at people gathering chocolates meant to be discarded as waste.Some social workers said the factory owner should not have dumped expired chocolates by the roadside and warned that consuming them could make people sick.People were seen taking as many chocolates as they could, with some leaving on bicycles and motorcycles, while others carried cartons on their shoulders and ran away on foot.DCP West SM Qasim Abidi said that a video of expired chocolate has come to notice. The Panki police station in-charge has been ordered to investigate.Eating such expired food items can pose a threat to anyone’s health, and after the investigation, an FIR will be registered in the matter
