MP newborn with four arms, four legs to be airlifted to Jabalpur | Bhopal News
BHOPAL: A 29-year-old woman gave birth to a newborn with four arms and four legs at a community health centre in Chhatarpur’s Lavkushnagar on Sunday.Doctors suspect it to be a case of heteropagus congenital defect, also called parasitic twinning, a condition in which an incompletely developed twin remains attached to the normally developing twin. The newborn and mother will be shifted to Jabalpur by air ambulance for specialist evaluation. The newborn, weighing around 3kg, was born to a resident of Hardwar village. Doctors said an additional body structure appeared attached to the upper chest and abdomen, with the extra structure having its own arms and legs. The mother and child were initially kept under observation at the Lavkushnagar Community Health Centre before being shifted to Chhatarpur district hospital. The newborn will be referred to Jabalpur Medical College for further evaluation and treatment.Doctors said the exact nature of the condition and the internal connections of the additional body parts could be determined only after specialist examination and imaging. The newborn’s blood circulation, bones, blood vessels and the connection of the additional body parts with internal organs will be assessed. Further treatment, including whether surgery is possible, will be decided after detailed evaluation.News of the unusual birth drew crowds to the hospital, while photographs and videos of the newborn circulated on social media. Doctors said the baby’s overall medical condition cannot be assessed merely from the externally visible body parts.
