Director Nandini Reddy, who directed legendary actress Sowcar Janaki in her final film, Anni Manchi Sakunamule, paid tribute to the veteran actor after she passed away on August 21. The director shared pictures with Janaki from the film’s sets and remembered her as a kind, affectionate and professional artist.

Nandini Reddy took to Instagram to share a picture of herself, Malvika Nair and the team of the 2023 Telugu film with Sowcar Janaki on the sets. She captioned the post, “RIP Amma,” along with a folded hands emoji.
The Maa Inti Bangaaram director also shared pictures of Janaki dubbing for her role, along with a handwritten note that the veteran actor had given her.She wrote, “This grand old lady of Indian cinema was the most affectionate and most professional artist I have ever had the privilege of working with.”Nandini also recalled the time she spent with Janaki while working on the film and spoke about the veteran’s warm nature.She added, “She told us stories, cooked and fed us all while doing her work as immaculately as she spoke. Independent, outspoken, articulate and most benevolent….. amma we were blessed to share a small part of your journey…… farewell.”

Sowcar Janaki’s final film appearance was in Anni Manchi Sakunamule, which was released in 2023. The film starred Santosh Sobhan and Malvika Nair in the lead roles, while Janaki played a character named after herself.In the film, she portrayed the adoptive grandmother of the lead character. Her performance marked the final screen appearance of the veteran actor, who had enjoyed a career spanning several decades.

Sowcar Janaki passed away at the age of 94 on August 21. She had been admitted to a private hospital after falling ill and died shortly afterwards.Janaki was one of the respected names in Indian cinema and worked extensively in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam films during her long career.Following her death, several actors and members of the film industry paid tribute to the veteran actor. Vijay, Kamal Haasan, Jr NTR, Chiranjeevi and several others remembered Janaki and celebrated her contribution to Indian cinema.
