BWF World Championships 2026 Highlights: Treesa-Gayatri create history, Satwik-Chirag crash out as day’s action ends



India experienced a day of contrasting fortunes at the BWF World Championships, with Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand creating history while Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty saw their campaign come to an end.

Treesa and Gayatri produced one of the biggest wins of their careers, stunning world No. 4 Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian 16-21, 21-15, 21-13 in a thrilling quarter-final. The comeback victory took the Indian pair into the women’s doubles semifinals and assured India of its first medal at the ongoing World Championships.

Satwik and Chirag had briefly taken a 14-12 lead in the opening game but could not hold on as Liang and Wang produced a strong finish to win it 21-18. The Chinese pair then dominated the second game, racing ahead and eventually sealing it 21-9 to book their place in the semifinals.
