Apple Music Apple Music follows Spotify, to start labelling AI-generated music
Apple Music will begin labelling songs created with artificial intelligence later this year, according to an email sent to industry partners and obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. The streaming service said that AI Transparency Tags will be required whenever AI is used to generate a material portion of a track including those primary divided from generative AI platforms.The move builds on Apple Music’s introduction of transparency tags in March, which allowed record labels and distributors to disclose AI‑generated content during uploads. With the new policy, those tags will become visible to listeners, making AI involvement in tracks clear. Apple Music did not specify how enforcement will work.The announcement follows calls from the RIAA and IFPI for streaming platforms to adopt AI labels similar to explicit content disclosures. Apple joins Spotify, which earlier this month said it would label AI artists on the platform, though Spotify’s system applies to artist profiles rather than individual tracks.Apple Music has already taken steps to combat streaming fraud, doubling penalty fees in January. Head of Apple Music Oliver Schusser previously acknowledged that AI proliferation was a factor, noting that while over a third of monthly uploads are AI‑generated, actual usage of AI songs remains below 1%.
