Four arrested for attacking cop, pelting stones at team during LMC drive

Lucknow: Two days after a mob allegedly attacked a police sub-inspector and pelted stones at a joint anti-encroachment team of police and Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) in Budheshwar, authorities on Tuesday deployed a heavy police and PAC force and arrested four persons involved in the attack. The authorities also removed 200 buffaloes kept illegally in dairies.Violence had erupted in Adiyana-Badalkheda area during Sunday’s enforcement drive against alleged illegal cattle rearing and dumping of animal waste on roads and in drains.DCP west Kamlesh Dixit said, “The latest arrests take the number of people held in connection with Sunday’s violence to six. Police had earlier arrested two women, Khushbun, 20, and Afreen, 27, allegedly involved in the attack. An iron chain allegedly used during the assault was also seized.”The case involves 27 accused, including 12 named people and several unidentified persons. Police are examining video recordings made during the confrontation to identify others involved in the violence.BOX‘Drive to check illegal dairies to be on’Lucknow mayor Sushma Kharakwal said those obstructing govt work or attacking municipal and police personnel will face strict action. She visited Para along with municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar to take stock of the situation. She said the campaign against illegal dairies will continue.
