BSF jawan tells family after wife’s murder; arrested

CHANDIGARH: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife in Punjab, police said on Saturday.A case has been registered against Amarjit Singh, a resident of Shekhamatta village, following a complaint by the victim’s father, Ram Chand.Singh and Rama had been married for around 12 years. According to the FIR, Rama was allegedly subjected to harassment and physical assault by her husband after their marriage.On the intervening night of August 13 and 14, at around 4am, Ram Chand was informed that Singh had called to say Rama had fallen from the roof of their house and had been taken to the Civil Hospital in Hajipur.

Ram Chand and other family members rushed to the hospital, where they found Rama dead. Her body bore several injury marks.The FIR alleged that Rama had been beaten and killed by her husband.Hajipur Police Station SHO Inspector Harprem Singh said Amarjit Singh was arrested and further investigation was underway.(With inputs from PTI)
