BCY leader attacks govt over women’s safety, rising crime
VIJAYAWADA: Bharat Chaitanya Yuva Jana (BCY) Party national president Bode Ramachandra Yadav has questioned the state government’s handling of law and order, alleging that women and girls are increasingly becoming victims of kidnappings, sexual assaults and murders.In an open letter to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Yadav alleged that the state was witnessing a “frightening” situation in which families were worried about the safety of their daughters whenever they stepped out of their homes. He questioned whether the state was witnessing people-centric governance or a “lawless regime”.Yadav alleged that ganja and drugs were freely available in the state and claimed that people under their influence were committing serious crimes. He criticised the government for allegedly focusing more on liquor revenue and filling the state exchequer than on protecting the lives and dignity of women.Referring to the death of medical student Priyanka in Rajahmundry, Yadav alleged that the incident reflected the authorities’ failure to ensure women’s safety. He also referred to the killing of BTech student Shaik Haseena in Palnadu district and questioned the effectiveness of the police system in investigating the case.Yadav further alleged that the whereabouts of child Gnaneshwari remained unknown even two months after her disappearance. He questioned why the police had failed to trace the girl and alleged that the search operation had been abandoned after a few days.He said protecting the lives and dignity of women and children was the primary responsibility of any government and alleged that failing to discharge this responsibility raised questions about the government’s moral right to continue in office.Yadav demanded immediate action against those responsible for the deaths of Priyanka and Haseena and sought urgent efforts to trace Gnaneshwari. He warned that the BCY Party would launch statewide protests if the government failed to crack down on the alleged ganja and drug mafia.
