Sandiip Sikcand directs his upcoming short film after years in television; says, “I’ve always wanted this”

Having created several television shows over the years, creative director, writer and producer Sandiip Sikcand has now fulfilled his long-pending desire to become a director and tell his own story.Known for his work on multiple television shows, Sandiip Sikcand makes his directorial debut with the short film Omelette, which also stars Samir Soni, Shilpa Shirodkar, Jaya Bhattacharya, Aaryan Dhawan, and Supriya Patil.The film has been close to Sandiip for some time. “I have always wanted to move from being a creative director to a director. I wrote the story about six years ago, then my partners in crime, Fazila and Kamna, said they would do it, and then it happened,” said Sandiip.For the first time in his career, Sandiip Sikcand directed a project with complete creative freedom.“It was scary but also very exciting. This was the first time I could say, “This is how I want to do it,” he said. “The actors were instantly responsive and enthusiastic about the script. After doing Omelette, I realized, this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. Hopefully, this is not the end.”Sandiip Sikcand directed Samir Soni and Shilpa Shirodkar, who are also his close friends, in his debut film.“It was easy because I have known them for so long. I wanted to work with friends as there is no fear of judgment. I have known Samir and Shilpa for a long time, so I know what they are like as actors. I also knew how to get the best out of them,” he added.Having worked with many actors in the industry, Sandiip said trusting them has always worked in his favour. The film’s cast delivered strong performances. “Right now, we are trying to get the film into festivals. Then, we will see how and where it will be shown,” he added.
