Gopalpura coaching survey draws flak after SC order | Jaipur News
Jaipur: The Jaipur Development Authority’s decision to conduct a fresh survey of coaching centres in Gopalpura has drawn sharp criticism from petitioners, who allege the exercise is another delaying tactic despite a recent Supreme Court order and documented violations.Petitioners said this is the sixth survey since 2022. They argued that the authority already has enough material to act against non-compliant institutes and should shift them.Secretary of the coordination committee of the Residents’ Welfare Associations of 150 colonies adjacent to Gopalpura Bypass Road, Gopal Agarwal, said residents had several meetings since 2022 with the state govt, Rajasthan Housing Board and civic bodies. He said repeated assurances were given about shifting coaching institutions to Pratap Nagar, but no concrete action followed. “On all occasions, JDA conducted similar surveys and then the issue was put on the backburner. This time also we are apprehending a similar screenplay,” said Agarwal.Govt town planners and enforcement officials acknowledge that many centres appear to violate provisions of the Model Building Regulations 2025. A coaching centre with 10 to 100 students must have a plot size of at least 500 sq m. Several institutes in Gopalpura reportedly have more than 500 students while operating from plots of only 200 to 300 sq m.“Buildings on both the sides of Gopalpura Bypass Road have zero setbacks, as approvals were granted for shops. After construction, however, coaching centres began operating from these buildings violating the building by-laws,” said a town planner.Some enforcement officials also questioned the need for a new survey, saying the violations are enough for notices and sealing action.“Following a meeting Thursday, it was decided to conduct the survey. It was not required,” said an enforcement official.
