HC expedites work to seek approvals for RML specialised unit | Delhi News
New Delhi: Delhi High Court has said it won’t brook further delay and directed the Central Public Works Department to take immediate steps to remove fire safety deficiencies in the construction of a super speciality unit in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.“It is needless to emphasise that construction of such a facility at the earliest will be in public interest and, therefore, no delay in completion of construction or removal of deficiencies… can be accepted,” a bench of Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia said recently.The court passed the direction while hearing a PIL by Social Jurist, a civil rights group, seeking to expedite construction of the specialised wing of the hospital. The court recorded the submission of the hospital which said that except for the fire safety certificate, all other permissions had been obtained.The directive came after the court examined the latest inspection report from Delhi Fire Services, which said the hospital’s application was rejected on March 9 after inspectors found 20 deficiencies. The department told the court that another inspection was done on July 4, but none of the deficiencies identified earlier had been rectified. So, that application was again rejected on July 22.A third inspection was done on Aug 1 and a fresh report on the remaining deficiencies will be shared in three days with the hospital and CPWD, the fire services said.The court made the CPWD chief architect a party to the proceedings and issued a notice.It listed the matter for Sept 7.The PIL, filed through advocates Ashok Agarwal and Kumar Utkarsh, seeks directions to make the super speciality block fully operational at the earliest, arguing that nearly Rs 400 crore had been spent on it.
