FARIDABAD: The 21-year-old man accused of brutally stabbing a private school teacher to death in Faridabad had allegedly planned the murder nearly two months in advance, bought a knife specifically for the attack, and had been stalking the victim for almost two years, police and her family said on Wednesday.During interrogation, accused Amit told investigators he had been waiting for an opportunity to kill 28-year-old Sandhya Sharma. Police said he had initially planned to attack her while she was travelling to or from school but dropped the idea fearing he would be caught. He then decided to carry out the attack inside the school.According to police, Amit reached Saraswati Senior Secondary School in Sikrona village around 9.30am on Monday and used Sharma’s husband’s nickname, “Vicky”, to lure her out of her classroom. As she stepped outside, he allegedly grabbed her by the hair and stabbed her in the neck and chest more than 27 times in rapid succession, killing her on the spot. CCTV cameras captured the attack, and a purported video later went viral on social media.“The accused was so enraged that he continued attacking even after the knife bent,” a senior police officer said. The murder weapon has been recovered, while efforts are on to trace Amit’s motorcycle and the clothes he wore during the crime.Police said Amit was arrested within two hours of the murder. A Faridabad court remanded him to three days’ police custody on Tuesday.Investigators said Amit had developed feelings for Sharma during her brief stint at a private school in Kot village in 2024, but she rejected his advances. Police said she had earlier lodged a molestation complaint against him, after which he apologised. They added that Amit remained resentful after Sharma changed both her workplace and residence.Sharma’s family alleged that the harassment stretched over nearly two years and escalated earlier this year when Amit allegedly abducted her from her home, assaulted her husband, and continued pursuing her despite assurances from his family that he would stay away.“This January, he forcibly took her from our house when her husband was away. Elders from both villages intervened and brought her back, but no police complaint was filed after his family promised he would not contact her again,” a relative said.About three months later, Amit allegedly assaulted Sharma’s husband after she refused to meet him again, family members claimed.Police said they are verifying the allegations relating to the alleged abduction and assault.ACP Aman Yadav said Sharma had repeatedly objected to Amit’s behaviour and warned him that she would approach the police if he continued harassing her. “We are verifying the earlier incidents mentioned by the family,” he said.Sharma’s husband, Vicky Gurjar, said stricter police action after the earlier molestation complaint could have prevented the murder.“If the police had acted strictly then, Sandhya might have been alive today,” he said.Questions have also been raised over security arrangements at the school. Villagers alleged there was no security guard at the entrance, allowing the masked accused to enter the campus despite around 300 students being present.When TOI visited the school on Tuesday, no security guard was posted at the gate. Principal Tejpal Sharma said the regular female guard was on medical leave and a woman peon informed Sharma that someone claiming to be her husband had come to meet her.Sharma, who had a love marriage with Vicky Gurjar, is survived by her husband and two children. Amit, the youngest of three brothers, is unemployed and earns a living by rearing buffaloes and selling milk, police said.
