Panchayat dept issues first all-Bengali govt notification | Kolkata News
Kolkata: The panchayats and rural development department on Tuesday issued a notification in Bengali. This comes after the state govt decided to make Bengali mandatory for all official work.CM Suvendu Adhikari announced in assembly a few weeks ago that starting Sept 1, the use of the Bengali language will be mandatory for all official state govt work, internal files, and administrative communications, following a recommendation letter from Union home minister Amit Shah. The panchayat department’s notification comes amid a confusion over taxes. Some social media posts recently claimed that govt had increased the panchayat tax to Rs 1,200 per family. The department has categorically dismissed the claim as false and baseless. The department said the govt had taken no decision to impose such an increase.
