Sikhs protest against remarks on Guru Gobind Singh, FIR lodged

Kanpur: Members of the Sikh community staged a late-night protest outside Fazalganj police station on Monday, demanding the arrest of a man accused of making objectionable remarks against Guru Gobind Singh and the Sikh community in a viral audio clip. Police later registered an FIR against the accused under relevant sections.The issue escalated after a controversial audio clip went viral on social media. Harpreet Singh, a restaurant operator and resident of Shastri Nagar, received a call from a person identified as Ajay Singh. During the conversation, the accused allegedly used objectionable language against Guru Gobind Singh.After the audio went viral, hundreds of office-bearers of Sikh organisations reached the Fazalganj police station and gheraoed it. They raised slogans at the police station gate and remained adamant about their demand for the registration of a case and the immediate arrest of the accused. They said such remarks would not be tolerated under any circumstances.Acting on a complaint lodged by Dashmesh Parivar Sanstha office-bearer Raminder Singh, police registered a case. According to Fazalganj station house officer Dhananjay Kumar Pandey, an FIR was lodged against the accused under relevant sections for hurting religious sentiments and deliberate insult.Members of the Sikh organisations also handed over a pen drive containing the audio recording of the conversation to the police as evidence.
