GURGAON: A 36-year-old employee of a multinational company allegedly died by suicide at his residence in the Surat Nagar area.Police said Sanjeev Yadav died under suspicious circumstances on the intervening night of July 26 and 27. His body was found hanging inside a room on July 27.Yadav’s family has alleged that he was murdered and that the incident was “staged” to appear as a case of suicide.Yadav worked as an associate operator at Denso’s manufacturing plant in Jhajjar and lived with his wife Manpreet Kaur and their son (7) in Chanchal Vihar.His father Ram Sevak named Manpreet as the prime suspect in a complaint lodged with police, alleging she conspired with unidentified associates to kill his son. At the time of the incident, only Manpreet and the couple’s son were present at home.No FIR has been registered yet. “The mobile phones of both Sanjeev and Manpreet have been seized and sent for forensic examination. Investigators are analysing chats, call records, internet activity and other digital evidence,” a police officer said.Ram Sevak told reporters, “My son could never have taken such a step. He was hardworking and had no bad habits. He was my only son and my last support. Whoever is responsible should be properly investigated and punished.”In a video recorded by Yadav’s son, the child is heard saying, “Dadu dekho papa ne faansi laga li hai” (Grandfather, look, father has hanged himself) as Yadav allegedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan.Yadav’s sister Kiran questioned the circumstances captured in the child’s video, saying it appeared unusual that the incident was being recorded while Sanjeev was hanging. “My brother was mentally very strong. He would never die by suicide over such a dispute. We strongly believe something wrong happened to him,” Kiran said.Sanjeev and Manpreet met while working at Denso and married on April 29, 2018. The couple had lived in the city since their marriage. However, Manpreet left her job after their child was born.During questioning, Manpreet told investigators that she was in one room when Sanjeev went into another room and hanged himself. She later informed her family members as well as Sanjeev’s relatives about the incident, the police officer said.The case took a new turn after Sanjeev’s father, Ram Sevak Yadav, submitted a written complaint on Friday alleging that his son was murdered between July 26 and 27 and that the incident was made to look like suicide.The family claimed there were frequent disputes between Sanjeev and Manpreet in recent months and alleged that she was seeking a divorce. According to Kiran, the family became aware of the extent of the marital discord only after his death.The family has also raised doubts over the physical circumstances of the alleged hanging, claiming Sanjeev weighed more than 100 kg and questioning whether the stool found at the scene could have supported him.Kiran claimed that Sanjeev had multiple sources of income. Besides his job at Denso, he repaired mobile phones and recently started a home-based cafe named “Foodie Order,” which, according to the family, was doing well.She said the business witnessed good sales until late on the night before his death, making it difficult for the family to believe that he would have taken such an extreme step.Police said they are investigating the case from every angle and have not ruled out any possibility. “The final autopsy report and the forensic examination of the seized mobile phones are awaited. Further action will be taken based on the medical, forensic and digital evidence collected during the probe,” the officer said.
