NCC Woman Power Pulls Out A Farmer Stuck In Well For 18+ Hrs | Nagpur News
Nagpur: A National Cadet Corps (NCC) girls’ camp running barely 50 meters away came as a saviour for Jeevan Tanksande, a farmer from Sewagram in Wardha, who was trapped in a well for over 18 hours till he was spotted by a local woman. To add to his luck, a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) — which is deployed during natural calamities too — was present at the camp to conduct a briefing to cadets about its activities.Officials at the camp and NDRF team rushed to save 55-year-old Tanksande. Before that, it was a casual greeting that the camp’s deputy commandant, Major Rizu Rawat, whole-time lady officer (WTLO), shared with Kamrunisa, a woman worker engaged at the hostel’s garden nearby, that helped bring NCC to Tanksande’s help.“Our camp is running at Bapurao Dehsmukh Foundation hostel. Every day Kamrunisa would pass in front of me, and I would just ask her, ‘Sab theek hain’ (all is well), and she would respond.“On Saturday, Kamrunisa came rushing to me and said a man had fallen into a nearby well. I immediately alerted camp commandant Lt Col Priti Tiwari,” said Rawat. Accompanied by Subedar Major Chandra Bhan Singh, nursing assistants GB Jangale and Ganesh Naik, as well as a driver, Rawat rushed to the site and found a man clinging to a small road. Before reaching out to Rawat, Kamrunisa had tried stopping people who drove by on the road nearby, but in vain. Her bonding with Rawat made elderly Kamrunisa realise that help can come from the NCC as calls to passersby only went in vain. The rescue operation lasted around two hours. NCC personnel first attempted to pull him out using ropes available at the camp for cadet training exercises. However, the exhausted farmer was too weak to secure the ropes around himself. At that point, Rawat remembered that NDRF team was present at the camp. The responders brought a rescue tube, commonly used during water-rescue operations. The device proved crucial as Tanksande managed to wriggle into it despite his weakened condition. Rescuers then used ropes to pull him to safety.Tanksande was given immediate medical attention after the rescue and is reported to be in good health.“It was the prompt action of the officer that helped save a life,” said Lt Col Amey Kanade of the NCC Group, praising Kamrunisa’s presence of mind and the coordinated effort of the NCC and NDRF teams.Later it turned out that Tanksande had fallen into the well on Friday evening while checking its water level. Unable to climb out and with his mobile phone submerged in water, he spent the night clinging to a small rod inside the well, desperately calling for help. His family members were away and the isolated location meant that his cries went unheard till Kamrunisa heard his cries for help.Soon after the rescue mission, life returned to normal, with Kamrunisa back tending the garden and the NCC camp continuing until July 11.
