AITA faces membership risk as Delhi High Court pushes constitution revamp, polls

Pune : Prompted by a letter from the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the Delhi High Court has directed the Administrator of the All India Tennis Association (AITA) to fast-track the redrafting of its constitution and bylaws under the National Sports Act, 2025, and mandate fresh elections on or before September 30.The AITA’s interim executive committee and state affiliates must convene an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) by July 31 to deliberate and ratify the revamped constitution being drawn up by the court-appointed Administrator, Retired Justice Gita Mittal.Derecognition threatAccording to the government’s affidavit, the world body in its letter to Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs has warned that if a courtappointed administrator remains at the helm beyond the deadline set by an earlier order of the Court, it may invoke its regulatory framework to review — and potentially suspend — the AITA’s international membership status.
