Dayal Padmanabhan revisits a real murder in his period drama | Tamil Movie News
Dayal Padmanabhan’s next is a non-linear period drama titled Lakshmikanthan Kolai Vazhakku. Stating that his film is based on a real-life incident, the director says, “The film’s core is about a murder and the debate around it.”There has been buzz that the project is based on the infamous murder of film journalist Lakshmikanthan, for which actors MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar and NS Krishnan were convicted. But Dayal wants to maintain the air of mystery. “This title is tailor-made for my film, which is based on a true incident. But whether it is the same incident that everyone thinks it is will only be revealed once the movie comes out,” he remarks.Vetri plays a thief in the film, and Brigida Saga is paired opposite him. Speaking about their casting, Dayal adds, “I approached many actors for Vetri’s role, but all of them had second thoughts because the film tells a very hard-hitting story. Vetri was the eleventh actor I approached, and he agreed immediately. As for Brigida, I was impressed by her rural look in Idli Kadai . She is an actress with nuance.”Having made several films in Kannada, Dayal tells us that he is now focusing more on Tamil and Telugu cinema. “In Tamil, there are fewer filmmakers who present contentorientated films in a loud manner. But even a hard-hitting film can be narrated loudly.”
