Somvati Amavasya 2026: Significance
There are 12 Amavasya observances in a year and falls once a month. There are certain Amavasya’s that are considered highly auspicious and powerful and Somvati Amavasya is one of them. Amavasya that falls on Somvar is known as Somvati Amavasya. Som signifies Monday and Amavasya means New Moon day. For Hindus, this day has great religious and spiritual significance. Offer water to Surya
Wake up early in the morning and offer Arghya to Lord Surya.
Feed Brahmins
One must invite Brahmin at home and feed them with sattvik food and give them clothes and dakshina after performing Pitru Tarpan.
Offering water to peepal tree
Offer sweet water to the peepal tree, you can prepare that water by adding adding milk and sugar in that.
Light a diya beneath the peepal tree
You should light a diya with desi ghee and keep it under the peepal tree. It is believed that ancestors reside inside the tree so it is meritorious to worship the tree.
Worship Lord Shiva
As we all know that this will be Somvati Amavasya so one must visit the Shiva temple and perform abhishekam to Shivalingam. This will be highly auspicious and meritorious.
